Did you know that you can use onion skin as a natural dye? Both red and yellow onions will do and you can re-use the dry skin that otherwise would end up in the trash.
Here is what you will need:
eggs
onion skin
an old tights
scissors
string
big pot
leaves and flowers
Start cutting your tights into smaller pieces. Make sure they are big enough to make a knot at one end and that the egg is fitting.
Place a leaf or flower on the egg:
Then put it carefully in the tights. It's easier if you turn it inside out:
Once you done, twist the tight tightly and wrap the string around it to fix it.
Repeat this process till you finished with all your eggs.
Place half of the onion skin at the bottom of your pot, then lay the eggs carefully on top:
Cover it with the rest of the onion skin, add water till the pot is full and cook it for 30 min. Be careful not to over boil!
For the best result leave the eggs in the water with the onion skin for overnight. The longer they stay, the darker their colour becomes.
Alternatively, you can wrap your eggs in lace or small pieces of curtain fabric with texture.
Have fun! :)
