Using natural materials and generating less waste is becoming more and more popular. Follow this tutorial to reuse onion skin and create your own paint.
What you need:
onion skin
big pot
water
How to do it:
Remove the dry skin from the onions and place it in the pot.
Fill it up with water and boil it for at least 30 min.
Remove from heat and let it soak overnight.
Remove the onion skin from the liquid. At this point it is still very light if you try to paint with it. And it's still a LOT of liquid.
Boil it more until it is reduced to approximately 2-3 fingers. If you want darker colour you can go even further. My boyfriend didn't like the smell (yes, it does smell like boiled onion:), so I had to stop... I'm suspecting he poured away at lest half of it.
And voila, you made your own paint. :)
You can store it in a glass jar or bottle for a long time and paint with it.
I used the left over liquid from my Easter egg painting. (You can find the post on how to paint eggs with onion skin here: https://www.kyoart.eu/post/easter-egg-painting-with-natural-materials)
